High-Speed PLA vs Standard PLA: Do You Need It?
High-Speed PLA Is a Speed Rating, Not a Free Upgrade
"High-speed PLA" is a product claim about how fast the manufacturer says you can push that spool. The cited pages do not agree on one speed. Anycubic High Speed PLA lists 50–600 mm/s in three nozzle-temperature bands [1]. eSUN ePLA-HS lists 350 mm/s [3]. Creality Hyper Series PLA lists 30–600 mm/s [4]. Creality CR-PLA, a standard PLA, lists 40–100 mm/s [5]. Anycubic PLA Basic lists 50–200 mm/s [2].
This guide compares /library/128, /library/44, /library/107, /library/122, and /library/114. For printer-side high-speed profiles on Bambu Lab machines, see /guides/bambu-lab-high-speed-printing-profiles — that article is about the printer, not these SKUs.
Speed Windows and Volumetric Flow
Anycubic's High Speed PLA product page is the source for both the banded speed table and the 18 mm³/s max volumetric speed [1]. The same brand's PLA Basic product page lists 12 mm³/s max volumetric speed [6]. PLA Basic's other processing numbers below come from the TDS [2].
Anycubic High Speed PLA speed bands [1]:
- 190–210°C: 50–150 mm/s
- 210–230°C: 150–300 mm/s
- 230–260°C: 300–600 mm/s
- Overall listed range: 50–600 mm/s
| Product | Library | Nozzle | Bed | Speed | Fan | Drying | Max volumetric |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Anycubic PLA High Speed | /library/128 | 190–260°C [1] | 55–65°C [1] | 50–600 mm/s (banded) [1] | Not listed [1] | 45–50°C, 6–8 h [1] | 18 mm³/s [1] |
| Anycubic PLA Basic | /library/122 | 190–230°C [2] | 55–65°C [2] | 50–200 mm/s [2] | 100% [2] | 45–50°C, 6–8 h [2] | 12 mm³/s [6] |
| eSUN ePLA-HS | /library/44 | 210–230°C [3] | 45–60°C [3] | 350 mm/s [3] | 100% [3] | Not listed [3] | Not listed [3] |
| Creality Hyper Series PLA | /library/107 | 190–230°C [4] | 25–60°C [4] | 30–600 mm/s [4] | 100% [4] | Not listed [4] | Not listed [4] |
| Creality CR-PLA | /library/114 | 190–230°C [5] | 50–60°C [5] | 40–100 mm/s [5] | 100% [5] | Not listed [5] | Not listed [5] |
Anycubic High Speed PLA is the only row here that pairs a 230–260°C band with 300–600 mm/s [1]. Anycubic PLA Basic stops at 230°C and 200 mm/s on the TDS [2]. Creality Hyper Series PLA reaches 600 mm/s in a 190–230°C nozzle window and lists a 25–60°C bed — a wider, cooler bed span than CR-PLA's 50–60°C [4][5]. eSUN ePLA-HS is a single 350 mm/s figure, not a 50–600 range [3].
Mechanical Typical Values (Where Published)
Speed ratings do not automatically mean stronger parts. Anycubic High Speed PLA's product-page spec table lists tensile 45±5 MPa, elongation 9±1%, Izod 21±1 kJ/m², and HDT 52°C [1]. Anycubic PLA Basic's TDS lists tensile 48±5 MPa, elongation 8±1%, Izod 22±1 kJ/m², Vicat 55°C, and HDT 54°C [2]. Creality's store lists Hyper Series PLA tensile (X-Y) 52.991 MPa and Soleyin Ultra PLA tensile (X-Y) 45.482 MPa [4][7]. Soleyin Ultra PLA is a standard-PLA store listing used here only as a published tensile comparison, not as a library CTA.
| Product | Tensile | Elongation | Izod | HDT |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Anycubic PLA High Speed [1] | 45±5 MPa | 9±1% | 21±1 kJ/m² | 52°C |
| Anycubic PLA Basic [2] | 48±5 MPa | 8±1% | 22±1 kJ/m² | 54°C |
| Creality Hyper Series PLA [4] | 52.991 MPa (X-Y) | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed |
| Creality Soleyin Ultra PLA [7] | 45.482 MPa (X-Y) | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed |
On Anycubic's two pages, High Speed PLA does not beat PLA Basic on tensile typical value (45±5 vs 48±5 MPa) or HDT (52°C vs 54°C) [1][2]. The published reason to buy High Speed PLA from that brand is the speed bands and 18 mm³/s volumetric figure, not a higher tensile number [1][6].
When the Speed Rating Matters
You need a high-speed-labeled PLA when your printer can actually use the published window and you want that time back.
- Anycubic High Speed PLA: use the temperature band that matches the speed you want — 50–150 mm/s at 190–210°C, 150–300 mm/s at 210–230°C, 300–600 mm/s at 230–260°C [1]. The 18 mm³/s volumetric rating is the flow ceiling on that page [1].
- Anycubic PLA Basic: 50–200 mm/s and 12 mm³/s [2][6]. Same 55–65°C bed and 45–50°C / 6–8 h dry as High Speed PLA [1][2].
- eSUN ePLA-HS: 210–230°C, 45–60°C bed, 350 mm/s, 100% fan [3]. No drying line on the cited page [3].
- Creality Hyper Series PLA: 190–230°C, 25–60°C bed, 30–600 mm/s, 100% fan, tensile 52.991 MPa [4].
- Creality CR-PLA: 190–230°C, 50–60°C bed, 40–100 mm/s, 100% fan [5]. That is a standard-PLA speed band on the cited wiki page.
If the printer already lives inside CR-PLA's 40–100 mm/s window [5] or Anycubic PLA Basic's 50–200 mm/s window [2], those standard-PLA rows already cover the job. The 600 mm/s figures on Anycubic High Speed PLA and Creality Hyper Series PLA only matter if the machine can hold the matching temperature band [1][4].

Which should you buy?
Buy high-speed PLA when the published speed or volumetric number is the bottleneck. Buy standard PLA when it is not.
- Choose Anycubic PLA High Speed (/library/128) when you will use the 190–260°C banded speeds up to 600 mm/s and you want the 18 mm³/s volumetric rating [1]. Do not expect a higher tensile typical value than Anycubic PLA Basic (45±5 vs 48±5 MPa) [1][2].
- Choose Anycubic PLA Basic (/library/122) when 50–200 mm/s and 12 mm³/s are enough [2][6] and you want that TDS's 48±5 MPa / HDT 54°C typical values [2].
- Choose eSUN ePLA-HS (/library/44) for eSUN's 210–230°C / 350 mm/s / 100% fan line [3].
- Choose Creality Hyper Series PLA (/library/107) for 30–600 mm/s, 25–60°C bed, and the published 52.991 MPa tensile (X-Y) [4].
- Choose Creality CR-PLA (/library/114) when you want Creality's standard 40–100 mm/s PLA window [5].
If the printer cannot use Anycubic High Speed PLA's 300–600 mm/s band [1] or Creality Hyper Series PLA's 30–600 mm/s range [4], those top-end figures are unused capacity. Pair this with /guides/bambu-lab-high-speed-printing-profiles if the question is the printer profile, not the filament SKU.
