    Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Filwiz — from getting started to advanced features.

    General

Filwiz turns filament data sheets into slicer-ready profiles so you can spend more time printing and less time tweaking settings. Upload a PDF or pick from our library of 350+ filaments, and Filwiz generates an optimized profile for your specific printer and slicer — in seconds.

Anyone who 3D prints. Whether you're a hobbyist trying a new brand of PLA or a prosumer managing multiple printers with different materials, Filwiz helps you get to reliable first prints faster. If you've ever wasted filament and hours dialing in settings manually, Filwiz is for you.

Filwiz supports 73 printer models across 17 brands including Bambu Lab, Prusa, Creality, Anker, Elegoo, Voron, and more. We're constantly adding new models based on community requests.

We support 4 major slicer formats: Bambu Studio (.json) and OrcaSlicer (.json) on the free tier, plus PrusaSlicer (.ini) and Cura (.curaprofile) with Pro. Each profile is tuned specifically for the slicer's parameter format.

    Data Sheet Analysis

When you upload a filament data sheet (PDF or image), the AI reads and interprets the document to extract key parameters like print temperature, bed temperature, print speed, cooling settings, retraction values, and more. It understands tables, charts, and text descriptions across multiple languages — then generates a profile tuned for your specific printer.

You can upload PDF files and images (PNG, JPG, JPEG, WebP). Multi-page PDFs are supported — the AI analyzes all pages to find relevant specifications.

The AI extracts nozzle temperature range, bed temperature, print speed, cooling fan settings, retraction distance and speed, flow rate adjustments, pressure advance values, first layer settings, and material-specific settings like drying temperature and moisture sensitivity.

Very accurate for well-formatted data sheets. Extracted values are shown alongside the generated profile so you can review everything before printing. The system applies printer-specific tuning on top of the raw data sheet values — adjusting for your extruder type, bed material, cooling capacity, and firmware capabilities.

Yes. You can select any filament from the built-in library of 350+ filaments across 33 brands and generate a profile directly from the stored specifications. No data sheet upload needed — just pick your filament, select your printer, and go.

    Slicer Profiles

Each printer model has specific characteristics — bowden vs direct drive extruders, bed size, max speeds, cooling capacity, and enclosure status. Filwiz applies printer-specific modifiers to the base filament parameters so your profile works well on your exact hardware, not just a generic setup.

Yes. After analyzing a data sheet, you can generate profiles for any of your saved printers. Each profile is tailored to that specific printer and slicer combination.

Download the profile file and import it through your slicer's profile/material import function. For Bambu Studio, use Filament > Import. For PrusaSlicer, use File > Import > Import Config. For Cura, drag and drop the .curaprofile file.

    Calibration

Filwiz offers 4 calibration wizards: Temperature Tower, Retraction Test, Flow Rate Calibration, and Pressure Advance / Linear Advance tuning.

Three of the calibration wizards generate G-code files customized for your printer and filament. Temperature towers automatically insert temperature changes at each level, retraction tests vary retraction settings, and flow tests adjust extrusion multipliers.

Not always. If you're using a filament with a good data sheet and Filwiz's AI-generated profile, you may get great results right away. But for optimal quality — especially when switching between very different materials — running a quick temperature tower and flow test can make a real difference.

    AI Assistant & Profile Doctor

The AI assistant helps diagnose and fix common 3D printing problems like stringing, warping, layer adhesion issues, under/over extrusion, and bed adhesion failures.

Yes. Upload a photo of a failed print and the AI analyzes the visual symptoms to identify the likely cause and suggest fixes.

The Profile Doctor is a dedicated tool for fixing print quality issues. Upload your actual slicer profile file along with a description of the problem, and the AI analyzes your settings, identifies what's wrong, and generates a corrected profile.

Pro users can upload filament purchase invoices, and the AI automatically extracts filament names, brands, quantities, and prices to add them to your inventory.

    Filament Inventory

Track your entire filament collection with details like brand, material, color, weight remaining, purchase price, and storage location.

Scan a filament spool's barcode using your phone camera to quickly look up the filament in our database and add it to your inventory without manual entry.

Yes. When you refill an existing spool, you can mark it as a refill in your inventory.

Take a side-on photo of your spool and the AI estimates the remaining filament weight using the 1.75mm filament diameter as a scale reference.

Hygroscopic materials like Nylon, PETG, and TPU absorb moisture over time, which causes print quality issues. Filwiz tracks when you last dried each spool and reminds you when it's time to dry again.

    Filament Library & Explorer

The Explorer lets you browse all 350+ filaments across 33 brands, compare specifications side by side, and find the best deals from retailers.

Community-shared filaments use an upvote system. When a filament receives 5 or more upvotes, it earns a Verified badge.

Yes. Once you've dialed in a great profile, you can share it to the community library.

    Pricing & Pro

Free users get 1 data sheet analysis, Bambu Studio & OrcaSlicer profile exports, 3 AI troubleshooting chats, 1 saved printer, full inventory tracking with barcode scanning, and access to the community filament library.
